Why is veterinary inspection performed on certain goods?

To prevent the occurrence of plant pests on imported goods (e.g., in seeds, plants intended for planting, etc.). Also, to prevent the introduction of insects, mites, bacteria, viruses, roundworms, etc. with imported goods. For many goods, the veterinary inspection is related to the country of origin (e.g., harmful viruses are known to be spreading there).
