Air transport – the best solution for the fastest deliveries

Air freight is a fast and secure solution for urgent shipments. We arrange business-to-business (B2B) air shipments on routes starting or ending outside the European Union. We carry out both imports into Estonia and exports from Estonia in cooperation with the most well-known airlines represented at Tallinn Airport. Our main destination markets are China, the USA, Taiwan, India, Canada, and other non-EU destinations. We carry standard goods and dangerous goods (IATA DGR). We do not offer temperature-controlled transport.

In addition to air transport, we arrange pre- and on-carriage. We also operate as a customs agency, allowing us, on request, to handle customs clearance and related matters as part of the same service. Air transport, customs, and cargo insurance from a single company – fewer parties involved, fewer errors, and smoother movement of goods.

Why choose our air transport?

Our service covers the entire organisation of air transport – planning, cargo handling – i.e. the handling and storage of goods at both the Tallinn and the foreign airport’s customs terminal, bookings, customs clearance, and consultation. As a member of WCAworld (World Cargo Alliance), the world’s largest logistics network, we cooperate with the largest airlines and have long-term partners in China, the USA, and other non-EU destinations, ensuring good connectivity.

We support the documentation review for dangerous goods (IATA DGR). We track the shipment throughout the process and keep the client up to date on any significant changes and risk points.

years of experience in arranging non-EU air shipments

Our company was born from the desire to offer Estonian exporters and importers a more flexible and reliable air transport service. From the very beginning, we have built partnerships in which logistics is not simply a cost item, but strategic support – from planning procurement and purchasing to organising exports and supporting sales processes. Our role is not to push the client into choosing air transport at any cost, but to help choose air transport when it is commercially justified.

Over the years, we have grown together with our clients and developed our air transport service from regular shipments to time-critical shipments and shipments requiring special handling. The service portfolio also includes customs clearance and cargo insurance. Our strength lies in non-EU destinations and daily practical experience managing international air cargo flows.

Today we serve industrial, manufacturing, and trading companies as well as public-sector bodies that need a reliable and experienced partner for arranging air transport for their non-EU export and import shipments. Our role is not limited to arranging transport, but also includes advising the client and supporting decision-making throughout the entire air transport process.

Main air transport corridors: Asia–Estonia, USA–Estonia, and Canada–Estonia air shipments

We carry out business-to-business (B2B) non-EU air transport for both export and import, in accordance with IATA rules and air transport practice. We offer solutions for standard shipments and dangerous goods (IATA DGR). We offer connections with more than 120 non-EU airports (starting or ending at Tallinn Airport), via Helsinki, Stockholm, Warsaw, and other transit airports. As a member of WCAworld (World Cargo Alliance), the world’s largest logistics network, we cooperate with the largest airlines.

We coordinate the entire air freight process, including bookings and documentation (both the air waybill – AWB – and other documents), and plan customs clearance according to the shipment. We give the client an indicative overview of transit times and suitable air transport solutions based on the nature of the goods and the route. The table below shows the main air transport destination markets and indicative transit times.

Destination market Main origin airports Arrival airports (Estonia) Service type Indicative transit time*
China Shanghai (PVG), Beijing (PEK), Guangzhou (CAN), Shenzhen (SZX), Hong Kong (HKG) Tallinn Standard shipments / Dangerous goods (IATA DGR) ~5–10 days
USA New York (JFK), Chicago (ORD), Los Angeles (LAX), Atlanta (ATL), Dallas (DFW) Tallinn Standard shipments / Dangerous goods (IATA DGR) ~6–10 days
Taiwan Taipei (TPE) Tallinn Standard shipments / Dangerous goods (IATA DGR) ~5–9 days
India Delhi (DEL), Mumbai (BOM), Bangalore (BLR), Chennai (MAA), Hyderabad (HYD) Tallinn Standard shipments / Dangerous goods (IATA DGR) ~6–10 days

We carry out non-EU air transport starting or ending at Tallinn Airport. The service covers both imports into Estonia (e.g. air transport from China to Estonia) and exports from Estonia (e.g. air transport to the USA). We arrange air shipments for standard goods and dangerous goods (IATA DGR), including energy storage units and equipment containing lithium-ion batteries. We help with communication with foreign shippers and consignees. Acting as a customs agency, we also support communication with the Estonian Tax and Customs Board and other authorities.

Frequently asked questions about air transport: airlines, documentation, customs, and Incoterms delivery clauses

We carry out non-EU air transport, enabling both imports into Estonia and exports from Estonia. Air transport is particularly suitable for time-critical shipments and for goods where supply chain speed and predictability are important. We arrange air shipments for both standard goods and dangerous goods (IATA DGR).

Below we answer frequently asked questions regarding the choice of airlines, documentation, customs, and the use of Incoterms. If you don’t find an answer or your shipment is still being planned, feel free to contact us. We also help in situations where not all the input data is yet clear, and we provide an initial estimate and practical guidance for the next steps.

The choice of a suitable air transport solution depends on the nature of the goods (standard goods or dangerous goods under IATA DGR requirements), weight, dimensions, and time-criticality. Air transport is justified primarily when delivery time is decisive, or when the value and nature of the goods do not allow a longer transport time. Urgent air transport solutions include both express deliveries and same-day delivery.

Although Tallinn Airport does not have regular intercontinental flight connections (such as China–Estonia or USA–Estonia), we offer air transport in cooperation with the largest airlines via various transit airports (such as Helsinki, Stockholm Arlanda, Warsaw, and Frankfurt). By using different airlines and transit solutions, we can offer different transport times on the same route, depending primarily on the number of stopovers. When choosing a solution, we assess which combination of airlines and transit points best matches the time requirements, risk level, and cost structure of the cargo.

Our air transport services are aimed only at business-to-business (B2B) shipments. We arrange air shipments where a commercial sales transaction has taken place and where both the sender and the recipient of the goods are legal entities.

We do not offer air transport services to private clients. For shipments and relocations involving private individuals, we recommend turning to companies that specialise in arranging private air shipments and international moves.

We arrange business-to-business (B2B) air transport for shipments with a total volume of at least 0.125 m³ (e.g. 0.5 × 0.5 × 0.5 m). This calculation applies to the shipment as a whole, not per individual package. For smaller-volume shipments, air transport is not economically justified in the conventional sense of cargo logistics.

Sending packages smaller than 0.125 m³ and documents is the domain of courier companies. For such shipments, we recommend turning to international courier service providers.

The maximum air transport quantity depends on the airline, the aircraft type used, the route, and the nature of the goods. The maximum shipment size is determined primarily by whether the shipment fits within the limits of the standard loading units of air freight (ULDs).
Tallinn Airport has a limited number of direct connections with large (so-called wide body) cargo aircraft. For larger and heavier shipments, we therefore offer air transport via the nearest international transit airports such as Helsinki, Stockholm Arlanda, Warsaw, and Frankfurt. In such cases, the leg preceding or following the air freight is carried out by road as a Road Feeder Service (RFS) solution, which makes it possible to use the cargo capacity and flight capability of larger airports.
We assess the feasibility of each larger shipment separately and, before the final decision is made, give the client an overview of the possible solutions, restrictions, and realistic transport times.

In air transport, the choice of Incoterm is particularly important for imports into Estonia, as it determines which costs and risks are borne by the buyer and which by the seller. From more distant countries of origin, especially Asia, sellers often offer CIF or other Incoterms starting with C, the actual content of which may not always be clear to the Estonian buyer. Although the air transport may seem to be included in the price, it often does not cover airport handling fees, customs clearance, or other costs arising at the destination, which depend on the airline and partners chosen by the seller. This can lead to unexpected additional costs and affect the actual landed cost of the goods.

When exporting from Estonia, the choice of Incoterm also directly affects the sales price and control over the transport process. We advise Estonian and Scandinavian companies on air transport Incoterms on a daily basis and share practical experience on both import and export. A well-thought-out Incoterm helps keep air transport costs predictable, reduce risks, and ensure a smooth and transparent transport process for both parties.

Yes, we also arrange air transport for dangerous goods in accordance with IATA DGR requirements, including energy storage units and equipment containing lithium-ion batteries. Such shipments are subject to additional requirements regarding goods classification, packaging, marking, and documentation, and the transport requires prior coordination with the airline.

Not all dangerous goods are permitted for air transport. We help assess whether the specific goods meet air transport requirements and advise on the necessary documents (e.g. dangerous goods declaration, MSDS, UN 38.3 test requirements), so that the transport complies with applicable safety and regulatory requirements.
